AP Macroeconomics: Complete Study Guide

Every macroeconomics topic, in the order the subject builds — measuring the economy first, then explaining it, then the policy tools used to steer it.

How to use this page. Macro has a natural sequence that most courses follow: you learn to measure the economy (GDP, inflation, unemployment), then to model it (AD–AS, the multiplier), then to influence it (fiscal and monetary policy). Policy questions carry the most marks and the most evaluation credit, but they are impossible to answer well without the measurement units underneath. Start at Unit 1 unless you already know why real GDP and nominal GDP differ.

Unit 1 — National Income Accounting

Measuring the size of an economy, and the limits of every measure.

Unit 2 — Inflation

What it is, how it is measured, what causes it, and who actually pays for it.

Practise it properly

Macro essays are won on evaluation, and evaluation is won with real evidence. The Economics Made Simple Complete Bundle pairs the 914-page textbook with practice questions and full mark schemes, 358 flashcards, and 100 real-world case studies to cite.

Unit 3 — Unemployment and the AD–AS Model

The core diagram of macroeconomics, and the labour market it explains.

Unit 4 — Money, Banking and Monetary Policy

How money works, and how central banks use it to steer the economy.

Unit 5 — Growth and Development

What makes economies grow over the long run, and how development is measured.
